BEBO Development Load Test of BEBO Arch A modern precast concrete version of arch bridge construction was first developed in 1960's by a Swiss engineer, Dr. Werner Heierli. This unique BEBO arch bridge system uses soil-structure interaction and combines the advantages of the stabilizing influence of the earth fill surrounding the arch, the inherent property of arch geometry and use of precast concrete materials resulting in an aesthetically pleasant form with superior stability and strength. After successful tests were conducted on a full-scale experimental structure, the first BEBO arch bridge was built on Swiss Federal Highway No. 1, in 1967. Since then, over 500 BEBO structures have been erected throughout the world.
